Thank you for supporting the Kiyooka and Ohe Arts Centre and Sculpture Park.
The funds we obtain from our April auction will help us complete one of our most important phases: the final architectural design and construction of the Centre’s future Pavilion, which will house a contemporary art collection. We conceived the Centre as a non-profit public art gallery dedicated to the research, exhibition, education and documentation of contemporary visual arts.
The Kiyooka Ohe Arts Centre and Sculpture Park has a simple proposition: to give back to the community by establishing a contemporary arts facility dedicated to the artist and to the aesthetic experience of, exclusively, contemporary art. Through increased participation in Calgary’s arts and cultural offerings, we will help create a local cultural identity and contribute to Calgary’s cultural enrichment and community pride. The Centre will enhance the overall quality of life and help recognize the role of culture as an economic driver.
Also, we hope to contribute to the development of a more cohesive arts community in Calgary by increasing audiences and support for the arts and by providing new opportunities for more offerings.
*As Katie put it, what we seek is to bring a lifestyle, a fusion of the experience of what art is… where people can come and mingle with the art, but also, for artists, to sit and contemplate life, retreat and find inspiration in our future botanic sculpture garden, wetlands and woods sanctuary.
The KO Arts Centre’s 20-acre landscape will be a repository, a setting for large sculptures carefully sited with consideration of both its immediate surroundings and distant views. Visitors will easily walk from one to the other, exploring the ways in which they interact with one another and the surrounding landscape.
Work on the land was completed with donations and government grants. Work on the Pavilion has begun with engineering work by Westoff Engineering and design by Kasian Architecture.
As you may probably know, we have now transferred the majority of our personal assets – this land, this house and studios, our art collection, which includes our works of art and artwork by other artists, and our library – to the KOAC’s Society. We have also donated an endowment fund for future operations.
We thank you for embarking on this journey with us.
